Bugs aren't only big in Texas

Yesterday, after I got back from the beach, I headed to Finnegan's to hang out and have a refreshment with the C-dog. As we were sitting on the patio, C suddenly looked over and yelled "the Beast is here!" He ran across the street and frantically started looking all around a parked car. Great, I thought. My husband has gone crazy. He's now seeing things. So, I finish my refreshment and run over to see what all the fuss is about. ` He had finally found the "Beast" and pointed to an enormous cockroach-like insect who had apparently fallen from the sky. He explained that that's how the Beast rolls. He falls from the sky, lands, and crawls...and crawls.... until he decides to take off and fly off to his next destination. You might not be able to tell in this picture but The Beast measures 3-3.5 inches long.

The Beast only comes out during the summer. He flies, HISSES at humans, and even wrestles birds. YES, real birds.

Everyone knows that Texas is famous for its large insects. (When I hear locusts sing in the summer it brings back fond childhood memories).
But I've NEVER seen anything like The Beast!!! I hope you never encounter The Beast, because he is one scary dude.
