Elba Weekend in April 2006

Photo of me and MC on our first trip together. :)
I thought I'd record our Elba trip from 2006 so I wouldn't forget the details. I realize it's something from three years ago but like I said, I really want to remember (especially the name of the place where we stayed). Only recently, while helping a student plan a trip, I came across the website for the bungalows we stayed in. It made me realize that I should record this info somewhere before our tech guy comes in again and erases all of my Favorites from my computer. Ergh.

To start, they say that Elba is one of Tuscany's "hidden treasures." Not a lot of tourists go there. It's an island off Tuscany and is super easy to get to. Hop on a train to Livorno, head to the port, and take a two hour ferry ride, and wa-lah, you're in paradise. The photo above is of my hand, a potato chip, and a very hungry seagull. That seagull actually BIT my hand after we whisked away his snack. Ouch. (Check out the view in the background. Niiiice. Oh and we're on the ferry going from Livorno to Elba in this photo).

(**Attenzione! Please squint your eyes before you look at that really white girl in the photo. It really might blind you!) After we arrived at the port from the ferry, we all rented mopeds and scooted down to Lacona, which is on the south side of the island. We stayed in these awesome bungalows in Camping Lacona Pineta. Not only were these bungalows super affordable, but they were located steps away from restaurants and the beach. In fact, we were so close we could actually hear the ocean at night! The bungalows themselves were found on the campground and were furnished with full bathrooms and kitchens.

The grounds had all sorts of games to keep us busy in the evenings. They even had a pool and all sorts of activities for kids (which we obviously avoided). We spent our days exploring the island on our mopeds but at night we relaxed with foosball and laughter :)

Overall, it was a very affordable and fun, relaxing trip. Next time you're in Italy, GO to Elba! It's a great three day trip, and you can do it easily from Florence. Ciao, Elba. Alla prossima!
