I had never eaten a fig whole before living in Italy. Now, I crave them every fall.
Moving on from figs... last weekend I made my hubby a deliciously light and healthy meal (my favorite kinds). I went to the market to buy some fresh squid. I soaked them in some olive oil, diced garlic, salt, and fresh lemon juice for about half an hour in the fridge before I cooked each side for just 1.5 minutes over medium heat. Before I served them, I added a tad more lemon juice for some extra flavor.
Then, I made a salad with these beautiful tomatoes, cucumber, and my homemade lemon-garlic dressing. You know how they say "happy wife, happy life?"
Well we need a similar saying for husbands, but nothing really rhymes with "husband."
What I'm trying to say is that he was happy :)
1. I can't stop listening to The Arcade Fire's album, Funeral. I don't know where I was in 2004 when it came out but I'm obsessed and can't stop listening to it. I'm glad C discovered it.
2. A lot of people keep asking me how we are moving all our stuff from Italy back to the U.S. Well, our apartment is furnished so we don't have to lug back any furniture. We're selling our t.v, and the rest is mainly just clothes and books. We'll sell or give away some books and I'm sure we'll donate some clothes and kitchen itemas as well. In all, we should only have to ship back about 4-5 boxes, which we'll start doing soon. The rest I hope we can cram into four suitcases total between C and I.

3. My dark, bronze tan from the trip has officially faded. *Sigh*
4. I kicked off my Saturday with a trip to our local neighborhood market (Mercato Sant Ambrogio), where I picked up some more figs and some cauliflower, where I'm still not sure if I was overcharged for the cauliflower (JUST because I'm a foreigner).
